One study highlights the potential of pumpkin seed oil (PSO) as a natural alternative for promoting hair growth, particularly in cases of male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia). The findings show that:

• A 10% topical PSO solution significantly increased hair growth scores after just three weeks of use.
• It increased the percentage of hair follicles in the active growth (anagen) phase to 75%, compared to 44% in the untreated group exposed to testosterone. For comparison, minoxidil achieved a slightly higher rate of 91%.
• The ability of PSO to reverse the effects of testosterone (a contributor to hair loss) was statistically significant (p < 0.001).

• After six months, the anagen ratio (percentage of hair follicles in the growth phase) improved by 11.68% for the minoxidil group and by 10.59% for the caffeine solution group.
• The difference between the two groups was 1.09%, which is statistically negligible according to noninferiority testing methods.
• The statistical analysis followed the CONSORT 2010 Guidelines, ensuring that the trial was rigorously conducted and its results credible.

The study concludes that a caffeine-based topical liquid is not inferior to a 5% minoxidil solution in promoting hair growth for men with androgenetic alopecia. This positions caffeine as a viable, alternative treatment for hair loss, particularly for those seeking options beyond minoxidil.
